Paperwhite Narcissus (Ziva)
Growing Paperwhite in water
- Carefully place a layer of stones in a tall bowl, dish or vase. You should use 2” for small containers and 4” high for larger ones.
- Place your bulbs close to each other with the roots facing down. Put a few stones around and between the bulbs to anchor them in the container. Leave the tops of the bulbs exposed.
- Finally, add water until the level reaches just below the base of the bulbs, but not higher as they will rot if the bulbs sit in the water.
Rooting & Care
- Set the container in a cool (50-60 degrees F) place out of direct sunlight. Check the bulbs frequently and water when the water level is more than 1” below the top of the stones in your vase.
- When a gentle tug meets with firm resistance (usually near 3 weeks after potting), move the container to a sunny window.
- Monitor watering carefully as actively growing bulbs can dry out quickly.
- When they begin to flower, a support or ribbon around them will help hold them uprights
- After Paperwhites finish blooming, the recommendation is to throw them out as they will not bloom again.
